Caving Operations Order: CAVE TRIP
We will have a WEEKEND TRIP to spelunk inside Climax Cave. Next to Climax Church ,Mt Vernon, KY 40456 (see caving packing list below) WEATHER is dependent. If rain is forecast, we may cancel. (hello Thailand) We have been grantes special permission to enter these caves and there will be 3 other troops going on this.
We will meet at Centenary lot then depart from the Centenary church at Fri 6 pm-ish and travel to Berea. See parking map below. Parents should return to Berea about 8am Sunday, to the Climax church right next to the cave entrance.
Covid protocols are lifted so we will all carpool from the Centenary to the cave. (and back)
MEALS We will have lunch in the cave , so bring a bag lunch. There will not be any cooking as we have done in the past, with cooks & coolers & chuckboxes, instead we will only eat backpack meals that you bring. After the cave, the cook may prepare a hot dinner. THIS IS DEPENENT ON THE SIGNUP ROSTER. Low turnout may change the meal plan.
Scouts may bring a backpack stove to heat water for their backpacking meal, or just eat packaged no-cook foods.
WATER There are no drinking fountains in the cave. BRING A LARGE WATER SUPPLY. Bring at minimum a 1/2 GALLON JUG OF WATER (link: like this 1/2 gallon juice container , or large camelback)
There are no restrooms in the cave. We may camp near the entrance so scouts may go outside to perform #2. Nothing is to be left in the cave. Everything must be carried out. (hint, hint)
We have some helmets but try to bring your own: either construction hard hat, or cycling helmet.
