SCOUT PACKING LIST

SEE COLD WEATHER GEAR

Basically there are 4 types of camping for Troop 73 and three different types of packing lists:

1.        Is what we call base camping – these would be events like Webelos Woods or Camp McKee or the “secret spot” at the Red River Gorge where gear will not have to carried over half a mile. During this type of camping will not require you to go as light, but you don’t want to be wasteful with space and weight (a scout is thrifty). For this type of campout the following is recommended:

_____ Tent (to be shared with buddy / buddies)

_____ Sleeping bag (weather appropriate)

_____ Sleeping Mat

_____ 2 water bottles – 1 liter each – non breakable

_____ Day Pack (sometimes)

_____Personal Hygiene Equipment (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, etc)

_____ Scout Handbook

_____ Folding chair

_____ Mess Kit

_____ Good Rain Gear

2.        Back pack camping – this is where we will be hiking in and an ounce in the morning will feel like a pound in the evening. These are the types of hikes where we might be going several miles into the wilderness and you should pack as light as possible without leaving critical items behind. For this type of camping the following is recommended:

_____ Sleeping bag (smaller – not big, bulky and heavy)

_____ Smaller mess kit

_____ 2 water bottles – 1 liter each and an optional water bladder

_____ Good, broken-in hiking boots

_____ Good socks (usually two pair worn at the same time – these socks are made of different types of material to avoid blisters) a liner sock made from polyester or nylon and an outer sock made of wool

_____ Survival kit – whistle, compass, personal first aid kit, survival blanket, matches, pocket knife, insect repellant, sun screen
