To the newest Troop 73 parents / scouts, welcome.

  4.       UNIFORM

  • CLASS A: Scouts must dress in full Class A uniform when attending scouting events (meetings / campouts /etc) .  The Class A is mandatory. see photo

Uniform consists of:

·         Scout shirt  (same as the tan Webelos shirt)

·         Scout pants (or dark green pants)

·         and the exclusive Troop 73 neckerchief (with our logo)

·         Neckerchief slide

  • CLASS B: some events are more relaxed and your scout can wear Class B uniform shirt which is any tShirt with BSA logo or text about scouting.  see photo

  5.       GEAR

For campouts, a scout should have:

  • a sleeping bag,

  • a pack (daypack is fine) ,

  • and a personal mess kit & cup/water bottle.

The troop has large group tents, but scouts can bring their own personal tent.

  6.       DUES

Each scout brings $1 each week to the meeting.  He is to EARN the dollar by means of a chore or some help provided.  NOTE: We won’t start collecting dues until week after scout has registered.

 7.       HANDBOOK

The scout handbook should be brought to every meeting/campout.

Have your scout fill out the Owner page, just inside the front cover.  (boxes for Name, troop, etc.)  Scouts will lay the book down and forget it, so we need to know who’s book it is.

Show them the back of the book.  Where to fill in: campouts, merit badges, service hrs, etc.

The book has all rank requirements in the back where these will get signed off by a leader when completed.  This book is his permanent record.  Do not lose it.  We now have Scoutbook online where these reqs can be recorded thus keeping his progress safe if the book is lost.

  8.       PARENTS BOOKLET

In the front of the scout book is a removable booklet, remove this and review it with your scout then

sign the box for SCOUT RANK requirement 6, on page 439.  (The only requirement a parent can sign)

  9.       WEBSITE NEWS & INFO

Visit our site www.Troop73.com to get the latest info on outings/meetings.

Your email will be added to the group list for you to get messages.

Look for an invite to join REMIND, an app that will broadcast our messages over cell text to inform you of campout return times and other urgent troop info.  During campouts we don’t always know the exact time we will return to the church.  Once we know, we text our E.T.A., so parents can arrive at the church to pick up their scout.

  10.       COMMITTEE MEETINGS

The 1st Monday of each month, 630pm, is the adult Troop Committee meeting to discuss troop business; finance, church/troop status.  All parents are welcome to join.  These are run via ZOOM MEETINGS. Look for the link via email a few days before the 1st Monday o the month.

If that Monday is a holiday, the meeting is pushed to the next Monday.

11.       ADULT MEMBERSHIP
Parents who want to attend campouts/outings MUST enroll as a BSA leader.
If you were already a Webelo leader then you only need to transfer over.
Be it New or Transfer, the parent MUST fill out the Adult Application (

  12   SUMMER CAMP

New scouts are eligible to attend Summer Camp.

Normally we depart Fathers Day, but this year camp is the week after.  Our web site has all the info.    summer_camp link

No late fees apply to new scouts.  Camp will follow social distance guidelines.

·         Physicals: A medical physical is required every year for summer camp.  You can get them from your personal physician.  Use the BSA medical form:  click here

·         Swim test: To do ANY water sports at camp (swimming/boating/etc), a swim test must be done every year to gauge the scout’s abilities/limitations in water.  We perform these tests at the YMCA before camp to avoid the rush at camp.

·         Medicines: Any scouts requiring medicine during camp will bring it in a baggie with dosage times/amount instructions on a paper, and give them to our house physician Dr. ???.

  13.   POPCORN

Scouts are required to sell popcorn during our popcorn drive (fall).  It is our only income for the troop to help pay for patches, outings, parties.

Each scout can sell :

  • door-to-door, (with a parent)

  • attend Show-and-Sell events in town,

  • use web links to send for people to buy online.

Money earned from their sales will go into the scout's ESCROW ACCOUNT that can be used for any scout event/equipment/trips.
